TIM CURNICK
CREATIVE AND PRODUCTION PORTFOLIO
Tim Curnick is a freelance bass player, music producer and improvising musician with a keen interest in native birds and fascination with the sonic experience. Having cut his teeth in Jackie Orszaczky’s "school of music” in Sydney, his musical influences and exposure to multiple genres has led him to forge a career as seasoned performer, improviser and sound designer.
Pre-COVID, he was touring full time nationally with Ross Wilson, Leah Flanagan and Killing Heidi, and in between this was performing with improvised soundscape projects Dry People Play Wet Music and Dingbats?!. He has also been a regular performer with Melbourne institution Uncomfortable Science since 2017.
In 2013 he produced Ngaiire's critically acclaimed LP Lamentations, which saw him further his reputation as both a music producer and sound designer. Most recently, he has been involved in releases by Sydney artist Florian and Melbourne artist SKŸE. He has written, produced and engineered many other recordings with numerous artists and production projects whilst based out of Typewriter Studios, Blackfoot Sound and most recently Turning Studios.
In 2018 he relocated to Melbourne, having fallen in love with the city and opportunities it provided to reinvigorate his love of making art with likeminded individuals.
Since 2002 he has recorded and toured with countless popular acts including Old Man River, Tim Freedman, Rita Ora, Joey Bada$$, Daniel Johnston, Angus and Julia Stone, Mahalia Barnes and Radical Son. His work features on releases by The Potbelleez, Florian, Carla Werner, Abby Dobson and Old Man River and some of his productions feature on US and Australian TV.
He is currently working on development of an improvised video algorithm to complement live performance, writing new music for a yet to be named avant-disco-scape project and looking to new ways to link the life of birds with his contemporary practice.
